Build Your Own Burpees
A burpee is a full-body exercise which incorporates strength, mobility and agility. They work major muscle groups including pectoralis major (chest)), deltoids (shoulders), core (abdominals), quadriceps (tops of the thigh), hamstrings (back of the thigh) and glutes (buttocks). Although a burpee is an advanced and challenging movement that requires full mobility, you can make modifications and break it down into separate movements for all fitness levels.
Benefits of Burpees:
You either love them or hate them, but burpees include both strength training and cardiovascular fitness.
Your heart rate increases while doing a burpee. You can practice them during a high-interval cardio training or as a fast-paced body weight exercise.
Burpees strengthen you bones. This is important because bone density declines with age.
Burpees require NO equipment and little space.
Burpees can be versatile and varied to increase and decrease the difficulty. You can eliminate the jump and return to a standing position. You can add dumbbell weights, resistance bands, extra push ups, a longer plank and the list goes on.
